DC Announces Levitz’s Replacement. And It’s Five People!

As stunned as we all were when Warner Bros’ Harry Potter overlord Diane Nelson was picked to head up the new DC Entertainment empire and when Paul Levitz stepped down from his President role to be the Contributing Editor and Overall Consultant for the newly-formed brand, I don’t think anyone expected Levitz’s old job to be filled by five new positions. And especially not by the people chosen for the job(s).

Levitz was apparently so valuable to DC Comics that to replace him the company has promoted artist Jim Lee and Senior Vice-President/Executive Editor Dan DiDio to Co-Publishers, writer Geoff Johns to Chief Creative Officer, and Executive Vice President, Finance and Operations of DC Comics and MAD Magazine Patrick Caldon to Executive Vice President, Finance and Administration. John Rood, a newcomer to the company who most recently was Senior Vice President of Marketing, ABC Family, has been named Executive Vice President, Sales, Marketing and Business Development.

You can read the official press release, as well as see what Lee and DiDio, Johns, Caldon, and Rood have to say about their new gigs at the DCU Source Blog.

Lee and Johns seem to be continuing their creative efforts at DC in addition to their new jobs.

The question is who is replacing DiDio as Executive Editor? And will their tenure be as controversial among fans as DiDio’s was?
