Is Katee Sackhoff Going To Play Captain Marvel?

There is a lot of talk going around today about Katee Sackhoff, formerly of Battlestar Galactica, and her possible future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

It all started when Louis D’Esposito (executive producer of pretty much the enitre MCU) spoke to ComingSoon.net and talked about the possibility of female-led movies.

There’s obviously a drumbeat that is banging louder and louder that we want a female lead superhero. We have strong female characters in our films from Black Widow to Pepper Potts to Peggy Carter and you never know. Maybe there’s an offshoot film with one of them. Or Captain Marvel, you know?

It’s hard because we have a small group at Marvel. We do two films a year. To get those two films done and to do them right takes a lot of work and manpower. And female-power, obviously. To add a third film and to just put it in the slate right now is difficult. We have these next three, four, five films coming out and that’s what we’re really concentrating on.

And then Katee Sackhoff shows up on the Schmoes Know podcast and mentions her discussions with Disney.

There’s been some stuff going on. Um… there’s been a lot of checking of availability… I don’t quite know exactly… I don’t know… there’s been a lot of questions about the first quarter of next year and then the…

Hmm, now what big deal thing does Disney have shooting in the first quarter of next year? Oh yea, Avengers: Age of Ultron. And what character that would Katee Sackhoff be perfect for was mentioned by one of that film’s producers? Captain Marvel. And wouldn’t Avengers 2 be the ideal place to introduce a character that they’re not 100% sure they should devote a solo film? Yea, it probably would.
