Fan Film Friday – WONDER WOMAN

I know I’m a little late to the party on this one, but, well, that’s what happens when you have a “Fan Film Friday” feature. Earlier this week, Rainfall Films released a short Wonder Woman fan film, a trailer for a film that’ll sadly never exist. Many fans were understandably thrown into a sort of rage about how this group of passionate fans could accomplish something that Warner Bros. and DC seem to refuse to attempt. Hell, even the Today Show took notice.

Personally, I agree with Bad Ass Digest that the short looks more like an ad for a God of War-esqe video game starring Wonder Woman than any kind of actual film, but I’ll be damned if that’s not a game I want to play right the hell now.

What’s weird is that Wonder Woman comes from some of the same people that made Truth in Journalism, the Venom fan film that kicked off this column. That film had an actual story (that was told quite well) and wasn’t just shots of the lead kicking ass.

Director Sam Balcomb had this to say about the film.

Firstly, thanks for watching. Whether you like, or dislike, our live action interpretation of Diana of Themyscira, Wonder Woman, born of clay, I think (quite a few of) you will agree she is a character just as vital and crucial to our understanding of humanity as any other superhero… if not more so.

We spent the majority of 2013 working on this — the look, the feel, the aspects we most wanted to portray. It’s a scant two and half minutes, but in the end, it’s one hundred and fifty seconds of pure fantasy, where I get to consider the two sides of my favorite warrior: a crusader in man’s world, and a paragon of virtue told through Greek mythology.

It’s a fun world to hang out in. I hope you enjoy it.

I agree that it’s a fun world to hang out it, perhaps they’ll make another film that actually allows viewers to do that.
