Who’s Writing The Rest Of WHO?

After the midseason finale of Doctor Who last month, fans have been wondering what to expect from the second half of the season. Couple that with the news that Neil Gaiman had another episode in the works, but wasn’t sure when it was going to air, and the anticipation for the list of writers and directors couldn’t be more intense.

Thankfully, Doctor Who Magazine has saved us all and given us that sweet, sweet fix that we need.

After the Christmas Special, which was written by Steven Moffat and directed by Colm McCarthy (Injustice, MI-5) the season starts back up in the Spring. Here’s who’s handling the creative duties.

  • Episode Seven: Written by Neil Cross (Luthor), directed by Farren Blackburn (“The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe”).
  • Episode Eight: Written by Mark Gatiss (“Night Terrors”, Sherlock), directed by Douglas MacKinnon (“The Power of Three”).
  • Episode Nine: Written by Neil Cross, directed by Jamie Payne (Ashes to Ashes, The Hour).
  • Episode Ten: Written by Stephen Thompson (“Curse of the Black Spot”, but also Sherlock‘s “The Reichenbach Fall”), directed by Mat King (Law & Order: UK).
  • Episode Eleven: Written by Mark Gatiss, directed by Saul Metzstein (“A Town Called Mercy”).
  • Episode Twelve: Written by Neil Gaiman (Neil Goddamn Gaiman), directed by Steven Wolfenden (2nd Unit on Harry Potters 5-8).
  • Episode Thirteen: Written by Steven Moffat, director to be announced.

I’m quite excited by this line-up. There are two episodes from the creator of Luthor, two from Mark Gatiss and Gaiman’s episode is directed by the 2nd Unit director for half the Harry Potter movies. While, yes, a lot of people didn’t like Stephen Thompson’s “Curse of the Black Spot”, I dug it, and keep in mind he also wrote the phenomenal finale to last season’s Sherlock.

The only thing that saddens me is so little Moffat. However, it’s safe to say he’s got about 50 things to worry about right now.
