Oni Announces Final SCOTT PILGRIM Release Date
Written by Skott Stoland on 03/19/2010 – 2:26 PM -Oni Press has finally given fans the bittersweet news they’ve been not-so-patiently waiting for since February of last year, the last chapter in Bryan Lee O’Malley’s story of Scott Pilgrim has a release date.
The final volume, entitled Scott Pilgrim Vol. 6: Scott Pilgrim’s Finest Hour, will hit store shelves on Tuesday, July 20, 2010, just under four weeks before the film Scott Pilgrim vs The World opens in theatres.
“It’s been quite a ride, and I couldn’t have gotten here without the support of the fans and the retailers,” said O’Malley, humbly. “It feels great to be in the home stretch, and I think this is going to be the best Scott Pilgrim book ever!”
Oni Press Publisher Joe Nozemack, however, couldn’t wait to overstate the importance of the series, “I’m convinced that Scott Pilgrim will go down as one of those series that changed comics forever. When I’m out and see someone wearing a Scott Pilgrim t-shirt or sitting in a cafe reading one of the books, I get so excited about comics entering the mainstream and to know that Oni Press’ books are helping lead the way, it’s an indescribable feeling. I can’t wait to see the reaction to the final volume!”
Oni plans to hype the release with a series of event announcements, including O’Malley signing books at this year’s San Diego Comic Con.
It is interesting to note that Scott Pilgrim’s Finest Hour comes out on a Tuesday, a day comics tend not to. Will Diamond ship the book early with street date warnings, or will comic shops lose a significant amount of first-day sales to book stores?
