SyFy Developing SMALLVILLE Prequel

Oh, Gotham. What have you done? By giving us a Batman show without Batman that people will actually watch, you’ve pretty much dared everyone else to take it that next step. And they sure as hell have.

David Goyer (one of the minds behind roughly half of the comic book adaptations you’ve ever seen, including the Dark Knight Trilogy, the Blade Trilogy and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance) is working with SyFy on a new Superman series that will put Smallville‘s no costume rule to shame by not including Clark Kent at all. Or Earth.

Krypton takes place years before the Superman legend we know, when the House of El was shamed and ostracized. This drama, which is in development, follows the Man of Steel’s grandfather as he brings hope and equality to Krypton, turning a planet in disarray into one worthy of giving birth to the greatest Super Hero ever known.

Ugh. For the love of zombies. But, hey, Goyer also wrote Man of Steel and even that film’s detractors agree that the Krypton prologue scenes were the best part of the film.
