I Wish I Were An Alien – Are You Ready To Not Laugh At Weird Al?

Unless you are completely devoid of any sense of fun in your life you are aware of the amazing king of parody “Weird Al” Yankovic. He has managed, over the years, to maintain a pretty amazing career, remaining relevant in an era of one hit wonders and YouTubers . It doesn’t hurt that his music is extremely funny. In spite of some of the songs becoming quickly dated he has managed to make them oddly timeless.

Recently he performed a duet of one of his biggest hits, “Yoda,” on Comedy Central’s Night of Too Many Stars benefit for autism. It left me with a reaction I did not expect. Watch for yourself below.

The young girl at the piano is Jodi DiPiazza who was diagnosed with autism at the age of two. This performance of a comedic gem made me very surprisingly touched. It is funny how in a different context a funny song can be turned into something beautiful. Watch it again and see if that is what you get from this.

And while we’re on the subject, you can watch the whole show here and donate at the Comedy Central website. [Ed note – You can donate guilt-free as the money goes to New York Collaborates for Autism and not the controversial Autism Speaks.]
