It’s been a long time since we got a new trailer for the much-delayed Ghostbusters: Afterlife (seriously, the previous trailer came out in December of 2019). But now there’s only a few months left until the film’s (theoretical) release, so it’s time for the hype machine to kick into gear. Today that means a new trailer consisting almost entirely of new footage. Check it out below.
While still leaning more heavily on nostalgia and foreboding imagery than laughs, the new trailer looks very good and answers a few questions that fans have been wondering about. We now have confirmation that Carrie Coon’s Callie is Egon’s daughter. We now know how the surviving Ghostbusters get involved in the story.
The inclusion of Finn Wolfhard really adds to the Stranger Things vibe the whole thing would probably have even if he wasn’t there. And that’s not an insult, by the way, I think it’s a smart move if the feel you’re going for is “spooky 80s nostalgia.”
Hopefully the shitty fanboys who whined about the 2016 reboot will keep quiet about this one. I don’t think they will though, as complaints about the age of the cast and the prominence of Mckenna Grace’s Phoebe in the marketing material have been around for a while.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife is set to hit theatres on November 11, 2021, unless Covid spikes and pushes it back again.
