Get Your Own Fridge – I Love Princesses

I admit it. I have a thing for princesses. Not the “Someday My Prince Will Come” kind of princess. The kind of princess who is less Snow White and more Queen Boudica. A few of my favorites:

Princess Leia

A leader of the Rebellion, only survivor of her planet, and the best shot in the original trilogy. She is tough, adaptable, stubborn, brilliant, and brave. Of all the characters in the Star Wars universe, Leia did the most and sacrificed the most to free the universe from the Empire.

Wonder Woman

Diana of Themyscira fights gods, supervillains, and occasionally a superhero. She also promotes peace, equality, and love. Plus, any princess that can kick Superman’s ass is automatically awesome.

She-Ra

Adora was born a princess, kidnapped, and raised to be the Force Captain of the Evil Horde (there wasn’t a lot of subtlety in that universe). After being granted magical powers and reuniting with her family, she chooses to return to the planet she helped oppress and lead the people to freedom. Also, I had all the toys when I was little.

These are just my top 3. There are plenty of other kick ass princesses: Merida, Amethyst, and Starfire just to name a few. Sometimes we fear princesses because there are so many types of media trying to use them to reinforce the idea that girls should sit quietly, look pretty, and wait for a man to solve all our problems so we can live happily ever after. Luckily, there are princesses out there to show how amazing being a woman can be.
