We’ve all been wondering where they were going to take the X-Men franchise after First Class. It was pretty obvious that the next step was going to be a sequel to that film, another prequel to the first set of films. Factor in the occasional movement on The Wolverine (ugh, that title), and it’s fairly clear we’re dealing with only prequels from here on out. Thanks a lot, Brett Ratner.
But now it’s seeming like calling the First Class sequel another prequel might not be so accurate. It might actually be both set some 30 or so years before X-Men and X2, and a few years after. Confused? I think I can explain.
According to Ain’t It Cool News, Fox has registered the title Days of Future Past with the MPAA Title Registration Bureau. (That’s where studios go to say “We’re using this title, go find another one.”)
What’s weird about this is that on Sunday someone on the Chud.com messageboards posted this as a wishful thinking possible sequel idea.
I say do Days of the Future Past with the “future” being 2014, and having survivors Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and Storm (Halle Berry) sending Kitty Pryde (Ellen Page) back in time to 1963 to prevent the Kennedy assassination because somehow it affects the future of mutants or something. With Sentinels and Nimrod and everything. That way the old cast meets the new cast, and we get to see Wolverine disintegrated by a Sentinel.
That would actually be a perfect template for Fox to follow. Just ignore the comic’s body possession version of time travel and just properly send her back. Then it absolutely works. I’d love it if this was where Matt Vaughn was going, such a great way to tie the two series together.
Also, Sentinels.
