Like many of you, I have a complicated relationship with the G.I. Joe films although I probably like Rise of Cobra more than most. It looks like the third time might be the charm as this rumor points to a movie that has the potential to be just flat-out amazing.
According to Film Divider, the next installment in the series could bring in a pair of fan-favorite villains and import a team member from another franchise.
The site reports that the Joes will do battle with evil twins Tomax and Xamot, heads of Extensive Enterprises, the legitimate face of Cobra. The duo are known for their hairstyles and outfits that mirror the other’s, empathically feeling one another’s pain and, of course, finishing each other’s sandwiches sentences. The studio is apparently looking to cast one actor to fill both roles, you know, to save some cash.
A bit more grain-of-salty is the idea that the Joes might not be going up against the Crimson Twins alone, they could be getting some help from, of all people, Matt Trakker of MASK. It’s unknown if the filmmakers plan to merge the teams in this film, the next one, or if they’re setting up for a spin-off. Either way, this certainly jibes with news from December when Hasbro renewed their trademarks for the brand.
By the way, what are the chances of a reference to MASK technology being reverse engineered from Transformers? I’m thinking near 100%. Need to get that shared universe going.
This is all very cool if (and that’s a big if) it turns out to be true. The twins are among my favorite Joe characters and I was just talking the other day about how much I loved MASK.
The only real question is whether or not, like the 25th Anniversary figure that likely inspired the addition, would director DJ Caruso also look to Chris Matthews to play Matt Trakker?
