One of the great things about Spider-Man is his cast of supporting characters. They’re part of what makes him so fun. Unfortunately, they’ve largely been underused in the various films. It’s hoped that new director Jon Watts, with his statements about a John Hughes inspiration will do better. To that end, we’ve got the first news of that new cast.
According to Variety, Marissa Tomei (best known for her questionably-deserved Oscar) will make wheat cakes for Tom Holland’s Peter Parker.
While you might imagine Aunt May as some sort of ancient crone, Watts has decided to cast a more age-appropriate actress in the role. At 50, Tomei would have been in her 30s when this new teenaged Peter was born. You know, like a aunt probably would be.
