Today saw the release of two very different trailers for two very different movies. One is the latest from a filmmaker known for his truly excellent work. The other is the unwanted sequel to a movie no one really wanted to begin with.
First the bad news. Disney’s making a second Alice in Wonderland. You know the terrible Tim Burton one that took everything wonderful about the book and shat on it? Yea, that one. James Bobbin (The Muppets, Flight of the Conchords) is taking the director’s chair vacated by Burton, who is staying on as a producer. It’s called Alice Through the Looking Glass and the first trailer is out. It looks just as bad as you’d expect. And again, Johnny Depp’s Mad Hatter is a lead role. Ugh.
This looks even bleaker than the first one, which cynically decided that Alice misheard and that it was never Wonderland, but Underland. Because Tim Burton, that’s why.
There is, however, some good news too. A shining beacon of hope on this darkest of days. The newest trailer for Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight is here. It might just be the film that knocks Fury Road out of my Best of the Year spot.
There really is only one reaction to this.
