In their half-hour live simulcast, the BBC has announced the next actor to play the lead on Doctor Who and it will be Peter Capaldi.
Capaldi has appeared on the series before in the episode “The Fires of Pompeii” (he was the father in the family Doctor saved) as well as Torchwood: Children of Earth (doing some truly awful things). He was most recently seen in World War Z, coincidentally credited as “W.H.O. Doctor”.
While it seems like he’ll make a fine Doctor, his casting will certainly anger many fans who felt the role has been held by white men for far too long and that it was it time to see a woman or an ethnic minority in the part.
