AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Cast Officially Growing

Things seem to be really getting into gear now for the inevitable sequel to this Summer’s debatably necessary Spider-Man reboot, with two new casting announcements filling out a pair of fairly major roles.

It hasn’t been exactly a secret that Jamie Foxx will be playing Electro in Amazing Spider-Man 2, and now confirmation comes that it’s not just a very well-spread rumor. The actor himself told Entertainment Weekly.

Electro is a great character. I met with the director, Mark Webb, I met with Andrew Garfield, and we talked. … I think Electro will be an exciting character to play because he’s a … genius electrician-type person, and he gets the short end of the stick from the whole world, and the next thing you know he turns it on.

Foxx is a weird choice, but not really a bad one. Since mostly giving up on comedic roles about a decade ago, he’s been pretty consistently turning in some very good dramatic performances (so looking forward to Django Unchained). I’m curious to see how he plays the character and looking forward to a year and a half of people coming up with ways to say he’s wrong for the part with the “I’m not a racist, but…” preface.

I’m also really hoping for the classic star mask.

The other new addition to the cast is Chronicle‘s Dane DeHann as Harry Osborn. I doubt you’ll find anyone opposed to this casting (that wasn’t also up for the role). DeHann’s part in Chronicle almost seems like a practice run for Harry. Personally I’m liking how much he looks like The Spectacular Spider-Man‘s sad-sack nerd take on the character.

Skott Stotland is a thousand monkeys in a people costume. They have been writing for the internet for over a decade.
