2012’s The Man with the Iron Fists was a passion project in the most extreme sense of the word. Writer/director/star/composer RZA, of the Wu-Tang Clan, had been trying to get the film made for close to a decade. When it finally made it to the big screen, audiences responded to his homage to the kung-fu movies of his youth with a shrug. The movie barely made back its budget.
Even still, someone at Universal must have liked it enough to give RZA another shot because there’s a (straight-to-video) sequel on the way.
Bobby Digital won’t be directing this time (Death Race 2‘s Roel Reiné is stepping in for him) and none of the big-name stars are returning, but the cast members with actual kung-fu cred are coming back and they’ll be joined by more veterans of Asian action films..
The Man with the Iron Fists: Sting of the Scorpion hits video sometime next year, and honestly I can’t wait.
