Netflix has a ton of new original content coming up in 2016. Daredevil, Luke Cage, new specials from Patton Oswalt, Hannibal Buress and Jimmy Carr and season two of Kimmy Schmidt to name just a few. But the one I’m most excited about is easily Pee Wee’s Big Holiday, Paul Reubens’ long-awaited return to the character that made him famous.
Considering how long Reubens has been trying to get this thing made (I remember him talking about it like 15 years or so ago), I’d reached the point where I wasn’t really going to believe it until I saw footage. Well, as the Monkees said, now I’m a believer.
There’s not a whole lot to see, really – lovely bit of homage to Tim Burton’s original film and a great little moment at a traffic light – but what’s there is more than enough for this fan of the Playhouse. And I have to say, at 63 years old Reubens is still totally the Pee Wee Herman we all remember.*
March 18 can’t come fast enough.
*- Holy shit, Pee Wee Herman’s in his 60s? I feel so old right now.
