Fans have been demanding it for years and now it’s happening. Harry Potter is finally coming to animation! Oh, wait, That should have said Harry Potter Jr. Literally no one asked for that.
Harry Potter Jr was the star of the awful Troll (a movie so bad it pretty much only exists now for trivia questions about that name and for its tenuous connection to Troll 2 of Best Worst Movie fame). Harry Jr (or “HJ” as he liked to be called, one assumes) was played by The Neverending Story‘s Noah Hathaway. In the film HJ’s sister get possessed by a troll wizard (as one does) so he learns magic and saves her (as one does).
Now, thanks to the power that The Asylum has loosed upon the world – similarly named, but totally unconnected cash-in films – confused grandparents will take their kids to see Troll: The Rise of Harry Potter Jr.
It’s like they’re warning fans right in the title.
Returning director John Carl Buechler had this to say about why this is a thing that’s going to exist.
“The original Troll film has achieved cult status, and based upon its success we believed that the timing was right to produce an updated 3D animated version for a whole new generation of filmgoers.”
Yes. That’s the reason. Troll‘s success and cult status.
But there are even bigger plans beyond a 3D animated feature. They expect a TV series and theme park in China will follow. Really.
