Adi Shankar’s Directorial Debut To Be Hilariously Bad

You’d think it was set for SyFy, but no, it’s coming from HBO. Adi Shankar (producer of Dredd, The Voices and a series of fan films that include the excellent Venom: Truth in Journalism and the terrible Power/Rangers) will be directing his first film and it’s already the funniest thing I’ve seen in ages.

Shankar’s film, Gods and Secrets will seem more than a little familiar to anyone who’s read Watchmen or Powers (or I guess watched the adaptations of them). According to Deadline,

The “dark” drama will mine territory similar to Alan Moore’s Watchmen, exploring the darker logical underpinnings of superhero tropes. In a world in which superheroes exist, personal foibles and the resulting celebrity culture are front and center. In the story, tragedy has struck the superheroic team Guardians of Justice, and in its aftermath secrets are revealed, lives are changed, and the war to end all wars begins.

The film stars perhaps the greatest collection of acting talent ever brought together – WWE’s Diamond Dallas Page, Kellan Lutz (Twilight), Jackson Rathbone (Twilight, The Last Airbender), Andy Milonakis (The Andy Milonakis Show, Who’s Your Caddy), Denise Richards (Wild Things, Starship Troopers) and somehow You’re Next‘s Sharni Vinson and Dr Quinn herself Jane Seymour.

It was created by Shankar, producer Jenni Powell and writer Shawn Deloache. Powell is responsible for The Lizzie Bennet Diaries (Pride and Prejudice retold via vlogs) and Deloache brought us The New Adventures of Peter and Wendy, a webseries so astounding I simply had to show you the trailer.

This is the creative team behind this made-for-TV dare-you-to-watch-men. I can’t wait.

Adi-Shankar

Really, Adi. I really can’t.
