When Todd McFarlane was interviewed back at Toy Fair and talked at length about the status of Spawn movie that he’s been swearing is coming out next year for at least 15 years, part of his ramblings included not-quite-name-dropping an “Academy Award-winning actor who phones every three weeks going ‘Todd, where’s the script? Where’s the script?’”. At the time no one, clearly not even the guy interviewing him, believed a word of this. And why would we? Todd’s a self-aggrandizing huckster on the level of Mark Millar. When he makes a crazy-sounding claim about a movie he’s been promoting for a decade and a half, it’s logical to just smile and nod. Or in the case of MTV Geek’s Steven Smith, barely contain your laughter in the man’s face.

As it turns out though, Todd’s the one laughing at all of us because now we know who the mystery Oscar-winner is. In an interview with Movies.com, Jamie Foxx discussed some projects he’d like to do.
As versatile as Foxx seems to be these days, there are still projects he’s trying to make happen, including an adaptation of the comic character Spawn, as well as a biopic about Mike Tyson. “Spawn is one, yeah. And Mike Tyson. Those are two roles I would just love to do. I’m aggressively pursuing them,” he told us.
It’s always a weird day when some of the BS McFarlane spouts turns out to be true. Does this mean the movie’s almost ready or that an animated series in even closer? I’m guessing no, but if one part of his story is real it does lend credibility to the rest of it.
