We’ve finally gotten our first look at Turtles in the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. And I’m not talking about that picture of a kids’ Halloween costume. It’s still not an official image, but it is a glimpse at what they’re really going to look like.
Someone got some shots of some maquettes on the set of the film (originally at Comic Book Movie, since pulled), and well, they match up pretty well with that description of the toys that was floating around a few weeks ago.
Here’s a better look at Leonardo.
And a not-quite-as-good look at Donatello.
I know a lot of people are very unhappy with the new designs, but honestly, I don’t mind them at all. In fact, I actually kind of dig them. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with changing things up a bit and the new looks are very true to their individual personalities.
There’s also now this promotional art (apparently from a toy show?) that gives another look at the Turtles.
There are also some pictures of the Shredder, and I can’t get too worked up over him either. He looks… like the Shredder, really.
I do have one question, though. Why does everyone keep calling this “Michael Bay’s Ninja Turtles“? He’s only producing it. He didn’t write it. He’s not directing it. Generally, when we say “____’s ____” we’re talking about the director. Neill Blomkamp got the credit for District 9, not Peter Jackson. Why is Michael Bay getting the blame for TMNT instead of Jonathan Liebesman? Is it because he’s just an easier punching bag?
