In what’s possibly the best news for fans of awesome things, made the announcement today that there’s a hell of a lot more Pacific Rim coming our way soon.
Del Toro gave BuzzFeed the exclusive statement (for some reason) –
“The characters I love will return. Raleigh, Mako, Newt, Gottlieb and who knows, maybe even Hannibal Chau – but we are taking them into a fresh territory that will display amazing sights and battles. The first film set the stage and now we’re ready to have a blast.”
Buzzfeed went on to say that the film’s stars Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day and Burn Gorman are expected to return but have not yet worked out their deals. Pacific Rim 2 is set for an April 7, 2017 release.
Before that happens, fans can expect an animated series and comic, but there aren’t any details on those yet.
And since there’s a set date, maybe, just maybe, this won’t end up somewhere in del Toro’s To Do pile.
