If there’s one thing I regret in my time at The Nerd Signal it’s my initial trashing of Sleepy Hollow. When Fox first announced the show, I called the idea a “shitstorm” and compared it unfavorably to Heil Honey I’m Home. But then it aired and I fell instantly in love with its batshit insanity. It quickly became one of my favorite shows. I was so wrong.
Which is why I’m so disheartened by this latest news about the series.
Word came down this weekend at the TCA from Fox TV Group chairman Dana Walden (via Deadline) that Sleepy Hollow will be a little different next season.
We are excited about some creative changes on he show. We want to get back to something that feels a little bit more episodic in nature, it has become overly serialized. We are trying to return the fun to it a little bit. This is all about calibrating the show, not making dramatic changes.
Yes, because a switch to a more episodic format from a serialized one did wonders for Veronica Mars.
Of course this could very well be a moot point anyway as the show hasn’t been renewed yet and the network is “going to wait a little bit longer. … Hopefully it will come back as well.”
