Once again, Hasbro eschewed the concept of “start dates” and “locations” and held their press event the night before Toy Fair actually begins, more than a few blocks from the Javits Center. This didn’t stop them from showing off some very cool new toys.
There was some fear that, despite this year being the 50th anniversary of the franchise, there’d be no new GI Joe on the shelves with no TV show to tie the line to, no movie this year and weak sales from the last movie’s figures. Hasbro wasn’t about to let the anniversary go by with no celebration at all (though it is a bit more low key than one might hope, possibly due to those above factors).
Fans can expect three-packs, two-packs, vehicle packs and a whole mess of Kreo stuff.
Note, the set with the brown VAMP is a convention exclusive, but we don’t yet know what one.
Do you have any idea how badly I need a Kreo Terrordrome? No, you don’t.
You. Have. No. Idea.
Next up is Guardians of the Galaxy. It looks like Hasbro’s going all-in on this one, far moreso than I expected, at least. You already saw the Marvel Legends figures, and in that piece I wondered if we’d see 3 3/4″ figures as well. Today we got our answer.
Sadly we won’t be getting movie Guardians that’ll fit in with your movie Avengers, the reason being Hasbro’s giving yet another new scale a shot. This time the figures are going to be 2 1/2″ (and significantly less detailed).
…And why, you ask, would they change the scale like this? For the ships, of course.
And what of those two previously-unannounced ML-scale toys? They’re comic-styled figures of Iron Man and Nova from their recent appearances in the GotG comics.
Stay tuned for Transformers and Star Wars soon.
