Sigourney Weaver, who played Dr. Grace Augustine in Avatar, has revealed that director James Cameron is planning on filming three sequels to the movie. Avatar tells the story of humans who travel to the planet Pandora in order to exploit its natural resources. However, what they don’t bank on is the loyalty of the planet’s native residents to their homeland, as well as the good hearts of some of the humans. The film carries many important messages about the world, as well as being very entertaining and packed with action.
James Cameron is known for directing the likes of Titanic and Aliens, and he certainly made a big impression with the first Avatar film in 2009. From sports fans to partypoker players, artists to musicians, many people liked the message that the film was trying to portray, that of the value of the natural world and the importance of respecting it. Aside from Sigourney Weaver, stars of Avatar include Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang and Giovanni Ribisi.
According to Weaver, she does not know how long the next Avatar films will take, only that three are planned and that they will probably be filmed either at the same time, or in quick succession. She has the films in her schedule however, and we will no doubt soon be hearing more about the plans.
Cameron has said that the only films he will make throughout the rest of his career will be the Avatar sequels. He also said that he is not looking for script contributions, as he knows what he wants, and needs, to say with the next films. He will make them entertaining, while portraying an important message about the world and what we should be doing to help it.
