Oh man, if this is true, then Josh Trank’s upcoming Fantastic Four movie might be the farthest departure from the source material of any comic book adaptation since, maybe, Catwoman. Fanboys, who get their dander up over even the slightest changes, are going to absolutely lose it over this one.
According to casting site Acting Auditions, the description of the film is… let’s call it interesting.
The Fantastic Four will tell the story of two very young friends, Reed Richards and Ben Grimm. After an event transforms the boys, they find themselves empowered with bizarre new abilities. Reed becomes a scientific genius who can stretch, twist and re-shape his body to inhuman proportions. Ben becomes a monstrous, craggy humanoid with orange, rock-like skin and super strength. However, the two end up being owned by the government and used as weapons. But after they mature, two others with powers come into the picture – Sue Storm “The Invisible Girl” and Johnny Storm “The Human Torch.”
It sounds like Trank is taking some cues from Ultimate Fantastic Four (which diverged wildly from the team’s well-known origins), and then taking his own liberties from that origin.
How long until fans start pining for Tim Story’s FF movies, which may not have been the been the best films but were at least faithful to the comics (Doom, notwithstanding)?
