We here at The Nerd Signal are not infallible. Sometimes we get things wrong. When rumors started swirling that Wonder Woman would make an appearance in the upcoming sequel to Man of Steel, we disregarded and outright called them “bullshit”.
Today it was announced not only that Wonder Woman will be in Batman vs Superman, but she’s even been cast. Oops.
Actress Gal Gadot of Fast Five and Fast and Furious 6 will be taking on the daunting task of playing the most famous female character in comics in her first time on the big screen. No pressure, though.
Director Zack Snyder thinks she’s up to the challenge.
“Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe. Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character.”
It seems that when looking for the right actress for the part, Snyder cast a very wide (and ethnically diverse) net, with Quantum of Solace‘s Olga Kurylenko and GI Joe: Retaliation‘s Elodie Yung in the running. In the end though, it was Israeli model-turned-actress Gadot who won the role.
For those fans who want a Wonder Woman that really can kick some ass, bear in mind that Gadot spent two years in the Israeli Defense Forces.
