Batman’s SMALLVILLE Sidekick Is Who?!?

Man, we should have expected Bryan Q. Miller to have something up his sleeve with his introduction of Batman to the Smallville universe. But I’m pretty sure no one expected Batman’s sidekick to be Nightwing instead of Robin. And I really don’t think anyone was expecting who’s under the mask.

You know, now might be a good time for some…

Actually, it’s a very good time for that, since Smallville Season 11‘s Nightwing is Stephanie Brown. In hindsight we really shouldn’t be surprised at all, given that Miller was the writer of her 24 issue run as Batgirl (the one ended by the reboot).

Speaking to TVGuide.com, Miller explained why he chose Steph.

Bruce can be somewhat of an angry man. Stephanie’s personality is so can-do and unsinkable and bright, so it’s very much on purpose on Bruce’s part that he has a good cop going out on patrol with him every night.

Oddly, those are pretty much the exact same arguments fans have been making for why the character needs to be brought back into the DCnU.

But, hey, at least we got her back in some form. And that’s a start.
